The Science Behind GLP-1
GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) receptor agonists—like semaglutide have been widely studied and have clinically proven benefits, especially in the areas of diabetes management, weight loss, and heart health.

Diabetes Management
GLP-1s are highly effective for managing type 2 diabetes by lowering blood sugar, improving A1c levels, and helping the body respond better to insulin, all without causing frequent low blood sugar episodes.

Weight Loss
GLP-1s reduce appetite and food intake, with some leading to 15–20% body weight reduction in clinical trials—one of the most effective non-surgical treatments currently available.

Cardiac Health
GLP-1s have been shown to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular death, especially in people with existing heart disease. They also help modestly lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Tracking Your GLP-1 Journey
With At-Home Lab Testing
Throughout your GLP-1 treatment, we provide you with At-Home test kits to evaluate your blood health and track several biomarkers as you progress. With this information, we can tailor your GLP-1 dosage to ensure maximum effectiveness and safety.
Important Biomarkers To Watch:
What it is: A marker that reflects your average blood glucose levels over the past 2–3 months.
Why it matters: It’s a gold-standard measure for monitoring diabetes or prediabetes. GLP-1 medications like semaglutide can significantly reduce HbA1c, improving long-term glucose control and reducing complications.
What it is: The sum of all cholesterol types in your blood (LDL, HDL, VLDL).
Why it matters: Elevated levels can increase cardiovascular disease risk. GLP-1s often lead to improved cholesterol profiles, especially when paired with weight loss.
What it is: A type of fat found in the blood, often elevated with insulin resistance or poor diet.
Why it matters: High levels increase the risk for heart disease and pancreatitis. GLP-1s can significantly lower triglycerides, especially in patients with metabolic syndrome.
What it is: A waste product from muscle metabolism, filtered by the kidneys.
Why it matters: High levels can signal reduced kidney function. Monitoring is important since GLP-1s (especially in diabetics) may affect kidney filtration during rapid weight loss or dehydration.
What they are: Enzymes released by the liver when it’s inflamed or damaged.
Why it matters: Elevated levels may signal fatty liver disease, medication stress, or liver injury. Many patients with obesity or diabetes have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which may improve with GLP-1 treatment.

Featured Customer Review

I started GLP-1 treatment about 6 months ago, and honestly, it has completely changed my life. I was struggling with weight for over a decade—trying every diet, workout program, and supplement you can think of. Nothing stuck. Within the first few weeks, my appetite noticeably decreased. I finally felt in control around food, which was huge for me.

The Facts
Learn More About GLP-1 Medication
What is GLP-1 medication?
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists are a class of medications primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes and, more recently, for weight loss. They have demonstrated significant benefits in weight reduction, glycemic control, and cardiovascular health. Below is a summary of clinical outcomes associated with some commonly prescribed GLP-1 medications:
Weight Loss
In a 68-week trial, participants receiving semaglutide experienced an average weight reduction of approximately 14.9%, compared to 2.4% in the placebo group.
Cardiovascular Outcomes
Semaglutide has been shown to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, including heart attack and stroke, in individuals with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
Glycemic Control
Patients achieved significant reductions in HbA1c levels, indicating improved blood sugar management.
Name-brand vs Compounded GLP-1
Semaglutide, is available in both brand-name formulations (such as Ozempic and Wegovy) and compounded versions prepared by specialized pharmacies.
Name-Brand GLP-1 Medications:
- Ozempic: Primarily prescribed for type 2 diabetes management, Ozempic is also used off-label for weight loss. It is administered via a pre-filled injection pen once weekly. As an FDA-approved medication, Ozempic has undergone rigorous testing for safety and efficacy.
- Wegovy: Specifically approved for chronic weight management, Wegovy contains the same active ingredient as Ozempic but is available in higher doses. It is also administered once weekly using a pre-filled injection pen. Like Ozempic, Wegovy is FDA-approved and has been extensively studied.
Compounded Semaglutide:
- Customization: Compounded semaglutide is tailored by compounding pharmacies to meet individual patient needs, such as specific dosages or alternative formulations. This customization can be beneficial for patients with particular requirements.
- Regulation and Approval: As with many generic alternatives, compounded semaglutide medications are not FDA regulated.
- Cost: Compounded semaglutide often presents a more affordable alternative to brand-name medications, like Ozempic and Wegovy. However, the lower cost of compounded versions comes with considerations regarding the consistency of formulations.
Efficacy and Safety Considerations:
Many individuals choose compounded semaglutide as a more affordable and accessible option before considering the higher-cost, brand-name alternatives. Compounded semaglutide contains the same active ingredient as name-brand versions, and while large-scale clinical trials have not been conducted due the relatively recent adoption of GLP-1 medications, many patients report positive results. As with many generic alternatives, formulations of compounded medications can vary, including some that use semaglutide salts rather than the base form found in name-brand medications. There have been very few reported instances of harm directly linked to compounded GLP-1 medications, reinforcing their general safety when sourced from reputable compounding pharmacies.
To ensure safety and quality, patients should seek out compounding pharmacies that are accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) or licensed by their state pharmacy board. Verifying a pharmacy’s credentials, looking for transparency in ingredient sourcing, and confirming that the pharmacy follows USP <797> and <800>guidelines for sterile and non-sterile compounding are crucial steps before using compounded medications. Patients can check a pharmacy’s accreditation status through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) website or by consulting their state’s board of pharmacy for additional verification.
